Louisiana Legislative Update: January 2024
The recent inauguration of the new Louisiana Governor and Legislature marked a swift start to governance. Governor Jeff Landry initiated a special session focused on reapportionment and a Primary Party Election System, which began on January 15th.
Looking ahead, the 2024 Regular Legislative Session, starting March 11th, is set to be a non-fiscal session, allowing for the filing of unlimited fiscal matter subject bills. Committee assignments for the new legislative body have been announced, introducing new leadership to committees of strategic importance.
Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) Secretary Announcement
Governor-elect Jeff Landry announced Terrence (Joe) Donahue, Jr. as the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).
Interim Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development
Anne Villa, previously undersecretary, has been named interim secretary of Louisiana Economic Development and will serve until a permanent secretary is selected.
