Gov. Kevin Stitt has appointed retired U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Gregory Slavonic as the interim commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) following the removal of former Commissioner Allie Friesen. Slavonic, who previously served as Oklahoma’s secretary of veterans affairs and military and held senior roles in the U.S. Department of the Navy, will lead the agency while a search is conducted for a permanent replacement.
A major industrial development in Chickasha, led by Chet Hitt, is expected to generate $3.5 billion in economic impact and create thousands of jobs by attracting high-demand industries. The announcement included a joint venture between Citizen Capital and Lightfield Energy to deliver behind-the-meter power generation for sectors like data centers and advanced manufacturing. Gov. Kevin Stitt and Rep. Brad Boles also marked the signing of SB 480, a new law enabling private power generation that is expected to unlock billions in private investment.
Gov. Kevin Stitt apologized to Sen. Paul Rosino and his wife after making a public comment questioning Rosino’s motives for introducing a resolution to remove former Mental Health Commissioner Allie Friesen. Stitt had asked whether Rosino was trying to help his wife “avoid responsibility for her role in the finance department there,” prompting backlash from lawmakers including Senate Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton, who called the remark “disgraceful.” Stitt said he let emotions get the better of him and acknowledged that he should not have made the comment, adding, “I won’t let it happen again.”
Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ has formally announced his campaign for re-election in 2026, highlighting his background in banking, business, and over a decade of legislative experience. Since taking office, Russ has overseen record-high investment earnings for the state, multiple bond rating upgrades, and significant growth in the Oklahoma 529 education savings program.
Important Deadlines
Gov. Stitt has until June 14 to sign or veto the 21 bills currently on his desk; otherwise, they will be pocket vetoed. Any bills without an emergency clause or specified effective date will become law on August 28, 90 days after Sine Die.
Senators must request interim studies by June 27, with approvals due by July 3 and all studies heard by October 31.
